Cryptocurrencies prompt contrasting reactions by Latin American regulators

The adoption of cryptocurrencies is rising rapidly in Latin America, but governments are struggling to keep up with regulation. How do regulators in LatAm perceive cryptocurrencies and should they start considering the benefits these could bring and not just the risks?

  

While used by organised crime, cryptocurrencies are also becoming accepted as a legitimate payment method by mainstream sectors of the economy in Latin America.

Currently, some stores, start-ups, restaurants, hotels, and other online businesses are accepting bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as a valid payment method.
