Life sciences and health care

The health care use case of the blockchain is a complicated one. While it is an excellent example of how technology can solve critical issues such as interoperability, security and accuracy, there has been hesitancy in adopting a technology that is in its infancy for something as vital and as sensitive as health care data.

There have been several use cases that have been developed to date, whether this is supply chain management on pharmaceutical products or whether it is the storing of patient records in an immutable ledger that prevents inaccuracies or duplications.

While this may bring greater efficiencies to the industry and monetary savings, there is still a hurdle to clear to satisfy concerns over the blockchains ability to provide security of personal information and its ability to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
