State legislators are still introducing (and passing) anti-ESG legislation. In 2024, 159 bills were introduced in 28 states, and many of these laws preclude state officers from doing business with certain companies based solely on the company’s ESG-related policies. The insurance sector has to navigate these ever-evolving legislative efforts and any potential legal action from the State Attorneys General.
