Incumbent President Ranil Wickremesinghe of the United National Party is expected to seek a second five-year term. 

The country has a unicameral legislature with 225 members directly elected for five years, using a system of modified proportional representation.

Sri Lanka has a population of 21.8 million and around 16.2 million registered voters. In the 2019 presidential election, voter turnout was 83.7%. In the 2020 parliamentary elections, voter turnout was 75.8%.
