On 9 June 2024, President Macron announced a snap election and dissolution of the National Assembly following the results of the European Parliament elections which took place on 6-9 June 2024.

The parliamentary elections took place on 30 June and 7 July 2024.

Following the second round votes, the New Popular Front (NFP) – an alliance of the France Unbowed party, Socialists, Greens and Communists led by Jean-Luc Mélenchon –  won 182 seats in the lower house National Assembly, President Emmanuel Macron’s Ensemble alliance won 168 seats and National Rally 143 seats.

France has a bicameral parliament comprising the National Assembly with 577 deputies who serve five-year terms and are elected by a two-round majority vote in each constituency, and the upper house Senate which has 348 members serving six-year terms.

The President is directly elected by popular vote and serves a five-year term.

France has a population of 64.9 million and around 48.5 million registered voters. Turnout in the 2024 election was 66.6%.

  • Advising a major granting authority in the context of a claim for compensation from the holder of a transport infrastructure contract, on various pre-litigation, litigation and amicable settlement of disputes issues, including drafting of memoranda, leading negotiations, support in judicial mediation and drafting a transactional agreement.
  • Advising several wine producers, the European Commission and the French government on protected geographical indications in relation to new internet extensions.
  • Advising the French Ministry of Defence in relation to its €1000m greenfield New Headquarters PPP project (Balard 'French Pentagon').
  • Advising the Government of Côte d'Ivoire on the concession agreement entered into with the national security stockpiling of oil company.
  • Advising a candidate in relation to the award of a public contract by the French General Direction of Armament relating to the purchase of an aircraft flight training centre and associated services.
  • Analysis of the risks related to the control and monitoring by the French authorities of the activities and employees in France of a US social network.
