Namibia is due to hold a general election in November 2024.

The country will be electing a new president following the death in office of President Hage Geingob of the ruling South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO) party, who was to step down after his final constitutionally mandated term in November. 

Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is expected to be SWAPO’s presidential candidate, as interim President Nangolo Mbumba will not be running. Panduleni Itula is expected to be the candidate for the opposition party Patriots for Change. 

Presidents are elected by direct vote and need to win over 50% of the vote to win and avoid a runoff. Presidents serve five-year terms and can hold a maximum of two terms.

Namibia has a bicameral parliament comprising the lower house National Assembly and the upper house National Council.  The National Assembly consists of 104 members. Of these, 96 members are directly elected by voters, while eight members are appointed by the President. Members serve five-year terms.

Namibia has a population of 2.6 million and aroundf 1.4 million registered voters. In the 2019 elections, voter turnout was 60.4%.
